Sorbact removes bacteria, irreversibly binding them to its surface to reduce bioburden and support natural wound healing. Sorbact is not only highly effective against common wound bacteria including MRSA[1]View reference information and VRE but also targets fungi. Unlike certain antimicrobial substances that kill bacteria, development of bacterial resistance is not expected with the mode of action of Sorbact and it can be used for a prolonged period of time.

  • Can I be allergic to Sorbact?

    The allergy risk toward Sorbact is low and very few adverse events are reported.

  • Does Sorbact release any active agent into the wound bed?

    There is no release of antimicrobial agents from the wound dressing. The effect is based on natural processes and physical interactions between the microbe and the dressing, utilizing the unique Sorbact Technology.

  • Can I use fatty creams or ointments together with Sorbact?

    You can use fatty solutions on the surrounding skin if needed, but not in the wound bed as it may impair the microbe binding effect of Sorbact.

  • Which Sorbact dressing should I use for fungal infection in skin folds?

    Sorbact Ribbon Gauze is intended for use for treatment of fungal infection in skin folds. It has a soft feeling towards the skin and is available in several sizes that can easily be cut into suitable length. Read more

  • What type of secondary dressing can be used with Sorbact?

    Selection of a secondary dressing is depending on exudate levels and change frequency. Example of a suitable secondary dressing is any kind of foam dressing, film dressing with pad or superabsorbent dressing.

  • Can Sorbact be used on newborns and children?

    Sorbact is safe for use in infants and children. There are also several publications on use of Sorbact in children.

  • For how long can I use Sorbact?

    Sorbact is suitable for a prolonged duration of treatment.

  • For how long can a Sorbact dressing be left in place?

    The dressing change frequency depends on exudate levels and the overall condition of the wound and surrounding skin. If fully saturated the dressing should be changed. If the clinical conditions allow, the dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days.

    For treatment of fungal infections in skin folds with Sorbact Ribbon Gauze, daily dressing changes in conjunction with inspection and regular hygiene routines is recommended.

  • How quick and for how long does Sorbact bind bacteria and fungi?

    Sorbact has an immediate onset of action and continues to bind during 7 days.

  • Does Sorbact have any impact on the wound healing process?

    Sorbact supports the natural wound healing process by reducing wound bioburden and has clinically been shown to improve wound healing and decrease wound size. It also binds endotoxins that may impair wound healing.*

  • Can Sorbact be used on infected wounds?

    Sorbact can be used for management of clean, contaminated, colonized or infected wounds and is clinically proven in several clinical studies to reduce bioburden. If spreading infection to the surrounding tissue or at systemic infection, it does not replace the need for systemic antibiotic but can be combined.

  • Can Sorbact reduce odor and pain?

    Sorbact is proven to help reducing pain during wear and odor from the wound site.

  • Can Sorbact be used to prevent infections?

    Sorbact dressings can be used for management of clean, contaminated, colonized and infected wounds. It reduces bioburden, improves wound healing and decreases wound size. Sorbact Surgical Dressing has been clinically proven to significantly reduce the risk of SSI in Caesarean sections.

  • Does Sorbact contain latex?

    There is no latex in either of the Sorbact dressings nor in pouches or packages.

  • Can I save a Sorbact dressing in an opened pouch for later use?

    No, the dressing is for single use and all unused material shall be discarded.

  • Why is Sorbact green?

    The green color distinguishes Sorbact from ordinary gauze dressings and makes it easy to localize.

Sorbact Absorption Dressing

  • Which side of the Sorbact Absorption Dressing should be in contact with the wound bed?

    The green Sorbact surface should always be in direct contact with the wound bed.

  • Can Sorbact Absorption Dressing be cut?

    No, as there are multiple absorption layers inside the dressing.

  • How should I fixate Sorbact Absorption Dressing?

    The dressing can be fixated with a wrap or a skin friendly adhesive.

Sorbact Compress

  • What to do if the Sorbact Compress gets stuck to the wound bed?

    Sorbact Compress is intended to be used on exuding wounds. Should the dressing adhere to the wound bed, moisten the dressing to assist removal and to avoid disruption of wound bed and surrounding tissue. If the wound is less exuding or dry, our recommendation is to use Sorbact Gel Dressing. Also choose a secondary dressing that keeps the wound moistened.

  • Can Sorbact Compress be combined with other wound dressings?

    Sorbact Compress must always be in direct contact with the wound bed to have effect. The dressing allows passage of wound exudate into a secondary dressing.

  • What is the difference in fabric between Sorbact Ribbon Gauze and Sorbact Compress?

    Sorbact Ribbon Gauze is based on cotton gauze and Sorbact Compress is based on acetate fabric. They have the same bacteria- and fungi binding effect.

  • Can Sorbact Compress be cut?

    Yes, Sorbact Compress can be cut to the appropriate size and shape. The remains must be discarded.

  • Is the efficacy better when the Sorbact Compress is folded into multiple layers in the wound?

    Several layers will not improve the effect to reduce bioburden The Sorbact surface must be in direct contact with the wound bed to utilize the unique technology.

  • How should I fixate Sorbact Foam Dressing?

    Sorbact Foam Dressing can be fixated with a wrap or a skin friendly adhesive.

  • For what exudate levels is of Sorbact Foam Dressing suitable?

    Sorbact Foam Dressing is intended to be used on low to moderately exuding wounds.

  • Can Sorbact Foam Dressing be cut?

    Yes, Sorbact Foam Dressing can be cut to the appropriate size and shape. The remains must be discarded.

Sorbact Foam Gentle Border

  • Is Sorbact Foam Gentle Border showerproof?

    Yes, the dressing has a showerproof and breathable backing film.

  • What is the material in the border of Sorbact Foam Gentle Border?

    The border is made of soft Silicone which allows atraumatic dressing changes. The dressing can also be readjusted if needed.

  • What are the ingredients of the gel used in Sorbact Gel Dressing?

    The Sorbact Gel Dressing has a hydrogel, that contains Carbomer, Propylene Glycol (10%) and demineralized water.

  • How do I use Sorbact Gel Dressing?

    Choose a size that covers the wound area without overlapping surrounding skin. To keep the dressing moistened for a longer period, it can be folded into multiple layers. Read more

  • The Sorbact Gel Dressing gets dry, what can I do to avoid this from happening?

    As the gel is water-based, there is a possibility it might dry when applied over a period. To avoid this, try the following:

    • Fold the dressing in to multiple layers
    • Choose a secondary dressing with the ability to keep it moistened e.g. a foam or film dressing
    • More frequent dressing changes might also be needed

  • What is the difference in fabric between Sorbact Ribbon Gauze and Sorbact Compress?

    Sorbact Ribbon Gauze is based on cotton gauze and Sorbact Compress is based on acetate fabric. They have the same bacteria- and fungi binding effect.

  • In treatment of fungal infection in skin folds, how often should Sorbact Ribbon Gauze be changed?

    Daily dressing change in conjunction with inspection and regular hygiene routines is recommended. Continue to use the dressing for 2-3 days after the symptoms have resolved to avoid recurrence.

  • Can Sorbact Ribbon Gauze be cut?

    Yes, Sorbact Ribbon Gauze can be cut to the appropriate size using an aseptic technique. The remains must be discarded if used in wound treatment. The cut end must also always be left outside the cavity and fistula to avoid residual threads in the wound.

  • How should I fixate Sorbact Ribbon Gauze when treating fungal infections in skin folds?

    If fixation is required, we recommend using a bra, underwear or a skin friendly adhesive. The adhesive should be applied outside the affected area.

  • Can I combine Sorbact treatment with fungicidal ointments or creams?

    No, the treatment with Sorbact replaces the use of fungicidal ointments and creams. Fatty products in combination with Sorbact may impair the effect.

Sorbact Superabsorbent

  • What is the fluid handling capacity of Sorbact Superabsorbent?

    Sorbact Superabsorbent contains superabsorbers and is intended to be used on high exuding wounds. The absorption capacity of the dressing is 1.23 g/cm² which means that e.g. the 20×30 cm size of the dressing can handle almost 600g of exudate (dressing pad 17.5×27.5 cm).

  • Can I use Sorbact Superabsorbent under compression therapy?

    Yes, the dressing can be used in conjunction with compression therapy.

  • Can Sorbact Superabsorbent be cut?

    No, as the dressing contains superabsorbent particles within the dressing.

Sorbact Surgical Dressing

  • For what exudate levels is Sorbact Surgical Dressing suitable?

    Sorbact Surgical Dressing is intended to be used on dry to low exuding wounds.

  • Is Sorbact Surgical Dressing showerproof?

    Yes, the dressing has a shower proof semipermeable backing film.

  • For how long can a Sorbact Surgical Dressing be left in place?

    The dressing change frequency depends on exudate levels and the overall condition of the wound and surrounding skin. If fully saturated the dressing should be changed. If the clinical conditions allow, the dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days.
